What is Referred Discomfort & How Does it Work?
✅ Referred discomfort happens when an issue in one area of the body creates sensations elsewhere.
✅ Why? Because nerves travel from the spine to different parts of the body, sometimes masking the true root cause of discomfort.
✅ This happens with skin, muscles, joints, and even organs!
For example:
- Heart issues can refer discomfort to the left arm or jaw.
- Liver congestion can show up as right shoulder discomfort.
- Digestive issues can create lower back discomfort.
🔹Practical Tip:
- Instead of just applying Redox Gold gel where you feel discomfort, also apply it to the corresponding nerve root at the spine. This supports both local relief and deeper nervous system balance.
What is a Dermatome & Why Does It Matter?
✅ A dermatome is an area of skin linked to a specific spinal nerve.
✅ Each spinal nerve supplies sensation to a particular region of the body.
✅ When there’s discomfort in one area, it could actually be coming from a nerve root at the spine rather than just the surface location of pain.
For Example:
- If you feel discomfort in your hand, the issue may originate from the cervical spine (neck area).
- If your leg hurts, the lower back (lumbar spine) might be the source.
- Applying the Relief & Recovery Gel directly over the discomfort AND at the corresponding spinal nerve root can maximize effectiveness. You can also do this with the Renu 28.
A dermatome specifically refers to an area of skin that is supplied by sensory fibers from a single spinal nerve root. However, nerves don’t just supply sensation to the skin—they also supply muscles (myotomes) and bones (sclerotomes).
So, while a dermatome is only about skin sensation, the concept of nerve distribution applies to muscles and bones as well, which is why understanding referred discomfort and tracing pain back to its nerve root is so important.
Breaking It Down: Nerve Supply to the Body
1️⃣ Dermatomes (Skin Sensation) – Areas of skin supplied by specific spinal nerves. When irritated, it can cause tingling, numbness, or altered sensation in that region.
2️⃣ Myotomes (Muscle Control & Function) – Each spinal nerve also controls specific muscle groups. If a nerve is irritated, it can cause weakness, spasms, or reduced function in that area.
3️⃣ Sclerotomes (Bone & Connective Tissue Influence) – Certain spinal nerves also have an influence over bone and fascia, meaning discomfort in a joint or skeletal structure could be linked to nerve compression at the spine.
How This Applies to Discomfort & Recovery Gel Application
🔹 If someone has discomfort in a muscle or joint, it could be due to a compressed nerve at the spine, affecting the myotome or sclerotome—not just the dermatome (skin).
🔹 This means applying the gel to BOTH the area of discomfort AND the corresponding spinal nerve origin helps address the root cause, not just the symptoms.
Applying the Gel for Maximum Benefit
✅ Key Application Areas:
- Directly on the discomfort area.
- At the spinal origin of the nerve that supplies that area.
- On reflexology points (feet & hands) for a full-body effect.
- On the belly button (increases circulation, supports nervous system regulation).
Why the Belly Button?
- It’s a powerful energy center connected to the vagus nerve and lymphatic system.
- Applying the gel here can help systemically support the body’s healing response.
Why the Soles of the Feet?
- Reflexology maps the entire body onto the feet.
- Applying the gel to the feet allows it to work through the entire nervous system.
- Great for sleep support, circulation, and deep relaxation.
Additional Factors Affecting Discomfort
✅ Discomfort is rarely just physical. Emotional stress, diet, hydration, and toxins all play a role.
✅ Supporting nerve function with hydration (structured water), clean nutrition, and stress reduction can enhance results. To relieve your stress at the root cause, see my Mastering Stress Online course!
✅ This is why holistic health matters—relief isn’t just about a symptom, but about getting to the root cause.
By understanding where discomfort originates from (not just where you feel it) you can to apply the Relief & Recovery Gel more effectively. Tracing back nerves to the spine, using reflexology points, and supporting overall health, can maximize relief and recovery naturally.
